Artist Bio

Lu Vu (They/Them) is a Vietnamese-Canadian artist who was raised on the unceded territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən peoples, what is known as Victoria, British Columbia. Vu’s artwork has been in many on-campus group exhibitions at the University of Victoria, such as KILLJOYS in 2025, an annual show that commits to raising awareness and preventing discrimination and sexualized violence, inspired by the essay The Feminist Killjoy Handbook by Sarah Ahmed. Vu is a multidisciplinary artist whose main practices include drawing, acrylic painting, and digital media. Influenced by independent animation, much of Vu's work is cartoonish, with common themes of identity, imagination, and introspection. Their work views the world through both whimsical and melancholy lenses, in vivid colours and stylized forms. Vu explores facets of their life with literal and symbolic self-portraiture, depicting experiences of isolation and being othered. They often work with collaged elements and compositions; this scrapbook-quality relates to Vu's book work and interest in accumulating notes, drawings, ephemera, and memories on paper.
